Description

Green Tahini Sauce made with tahini paste, fresh herbs, garlic, lemon and a few slices of green chilies. Perfect with falafels, shawarma, mezze platters!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 fat garlic cloves
  • 3/4 cup fresh herbs (Cilantro, Italian parsley, Mint, dill or basil or a combo! See notes)
  • 23 slices jalapeno (optional)
  • 1/2- 1 teaspoon salt, start with 1/2 teaspoon add more to taste
  • 1/2 cup tahini paste, stirred

Instructions

Place all the ingredients (except the tahini paste) in a blender or food processer and blend until combined but not overly smooth. Add tahini paste. Blend until creamy, leaving some of the herbs intact.

Taste, and adjust salt, acid and heat. (Add salt, lemon, fresh chilies to taste).

If you want a “looser “sauce, add a little more water until the desired consistency.

Notes

Optional: Feel free to add 1-2 teaspoons Zaatar if you like.

Herbs: I like using a blend of 2 or 3 herbs here- (Italian parsley, mint and cilantro are my favorite combo) but if in a pinch one herb is fine too. Thin stems are ok.

Store in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 5 days.

  1. Used with the Za’atar meatballs (also great!), but would be good with a lot of things – as a dip, a sauce, or a sandwich condiment.

  3. This is the best tahini sauce in the world. Beyond delicious, healthy and super versatile.
Thanks for all the great recipes! Just found you recently, and you’re my favorite. ☺️

    1. Awww… thanks so much Mary-Ella! I like this one too. Welcome to the blog- happy you are here!

  4. We love this dressing! It has become a staple in our kitchen. I doubled the lemon because we like a strong citrus flavor. I always use mint in my herb combo-I like the subtle flavor it brings. It’s great as a raw vegetable dip. Thanks so much for the recipe!

  5. My family follows a whole foods, no-oil, vegan diet. Is there a substitute for the olive oil in this recipe? Thanks!

  6. Really nice. I thought after adding the water it was too runny but once the tahini was added the consistency was perfect. Yum. Had with lamb koftas.

  7. Good, the tahini sauce is quite rich but tasty. Next time I think I’ll use less tahini and add the Zaatar✨
