  • Optional: a squeeze of orange or lemon, and a few drops of vanilla!
  • Ice

How to make the BEST slushie

  2. Blend until smooth. Add a splash of water if need be, to get the blender going.

Description

How to make a homemade slushie with fresh berries. Vegan, gluten-free and can be made in 5 minutes!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 cups strawberries, quartered (about 10-12 medium strawberries) or sub other fresh berries
  • 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup, more to taste
  • a squeeze of lime, orange or lemon (1 tablespoon)
  • optional: 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/22 cups ice (more to create desired consistency)
  • Other additions- huckleberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, peaches, mango, etc.

Instructions

  1. Place strawberries, maple and a squeeze of citrus in a blender. Blend until smooth. If need be, add a splash of water to the bender to get it going.
  2. Taste, adding more maple or citrus to taste if you like. You want a nice balance between sweet and tart. The sweeter and riper the strawberries are the less maple or honey you will need.f
  3. Add the ice cubes a little at a time, blending until fully incorporated, adding more ice to the blender  (if you like) to get it really thick and icy. If you’ve got a good blender, let it go just a bit it longer, it will take on a slightly creamy look.  It should be thick enough to mound on a spoon, and not be runny.
  4. Spoon into one large glass or two smaller glasses. Serve with a spoon. 🙂

Notes

Feel free to add other berries to the mix- blueberries, huckleberries, blackberries, etc.

If you’d like a bit of creaminess, add a few spoonfuls of yogurt- super tasty. 🙂

  1. It’s more fun to eat strawberry fruit than to look beautiful. I occasionally eat mango blended with strawberries.I like to blend mango and strawberry in this way.

  2. I followed your recipe exactly the same way and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. The aroma and a crunch of strawberries seeds with honey was too good. For me it’s 10/10.

    1. The ice ratio would change. You’d need something liquidy to add to it so it actually blends. Water?

      1. I use frozen strawberries and put some orange juice and water in to thin it down enough to blend. So incredibly yummy and refreshing!

  3. Hi Sylvia,
One hot afternoon, I was trying to figure out what to do with extra strawberries. My son suggested slushies. I remembered seeing your recipe so we made it. I wasn’t sure about honey with srawberries, but ended up loving it. We’ve made them twice since then. Thank you for this great summer cooler.

  4. Oustanding! Everything about this is perfect! I am in love! <3

    It's delicious definitely recommend

  5. I tried this recipe with my daughter and we got confused on what to from the instruction it was not as clear as we had hoped. We did have to figure it out which took a while. It did taste good though but took twice as long because of the instruction

  6. This recipe is the only one that worked for me! This drink tastes so good and refreshing, and even better its healthy!

        1. Oh shoot. Try making a small batch of Liquid Honey (type this in search bar) for recipes like this- It keeps forever!

  7. Good!! But really thick. Double the honey, add some lemon or lemonade, some sparkling water, and some sugar! ??

      1. I’ve used stevia as my sweetener, careful not to use a blend that contains sugar. While I’m still getting used to the stevia taste, this slushie is a definite winner. Frozen extra can be chipped up & eaten later w/ a spoon. Yum!

  8. After a hot day at the beach this was deliciously refreshing! As hubby said “Wow, that’s good!”

    1. That is amazing Jenna, congrats! And I’m so happy this has helped with cravings…this was what it was designed for!
