This Maple Ginger Hot Toddy is everything you want in a winter cocktail- warming, soothing and oh so cozy!
Meet my new favorite drink – a Maple Ginger Hot Toddy! A cozy warm winter sipper, made with muddled ginger, maple syrup (or honey), whiskey, a squeeze of lemon and hot ginger tea.
The perfect cocktail for chilly evenings fireside or when feeling under the weather. Not only does it soothe a sore throat and help clear the sinuses, it tucks one gently into bed for the night.
What you’ll need:
- A sachel of tea- ginger, spice, black, rooibos, chai, etc.
- fresh ginger, thinly sliced
- whole spices- cinnamon, cloves, or star anise
- Lemon -Meyer lemons are particularly good here.
- maple syrup
- Whiskey or Bourbon
How to make a Hot Toddy
- The Maple Ginger Hot Toddy is really simple to make.
- Set a kettle of water to boil on the stove.
- Add a few slices of fresh ginger to a mug and gently muddle.
- Add a satchel of tea- here I’m using Celestial Seasonings Ginger Spice– and any whole spices you like, star anise, clove, or cinnamon.
- Pour the hot water over, add a shot of whiskey (or bourbon or scotch), stir in a little maple syrup and finish with a squeeze of lemon.
A classic Hot Toddy will not have the tea bag- feel free to leave it out if you like- but I like the flavor it adds.
Feel free to reuse the tea bag and spices, if having seconds.
Enjoy the Hot Toddy- so cozy and warming!

I couldn’t find gingerbread tea, but this recipe was still awesome. Yum! So delicious! We featured it on our recent Facebook Live event for Smoky Lake Maple. Thanks for sharing!
Love it!
Delicious! I used chamomile tea + honey for a Valentines toddy! Thank you for a great recipe!
I made a pitcher of these for an outdoor winter happy hour–they were a big hit. Thank you!
First snow today. I’m trying this tonight!
Amazing. Guzzled.
Thank you Sarah. Delicious!
I am under the weather today so I made a toddy. I substituted Celestial Seasoning Apple Cinnamon tea and cloves, as that was available. Darn tasty. I’m hoping half a Netflix show and a nap will set me on the road to recovery. Thank you.
Where did you get those adorable glasses?
I borrowed them from a friend who got them as a gift. I know, I really like them too. 🙂
I LOVE the combination of ginger and maple! Believe it or not, I’m actually sitting here eating some maple oats spiked with a little ginger, and it’s fantastic! I’d love to have it in drink form 🙂
Thanks Sarah- your site is beautiful!
