About Sylvia Fountaine
Creator of Feasting at Home– writer, photographer, and recipe developer since 2011.
In 1996, I left my counseling career to open a vegetarian restaurant with my high school friend, Tonia, in downtown Spokane. It was exciting and difficult, but I was young and up for the challenges!
Ten years later, I sold the restaurant to a long-time employee and took a year off to travel. I missed cooking! I started a catering business called Feast in 2008, which I ran for another 10 years. In 2018, I closed down the catering business to run Feasting at Home full time.
The Feasting at Home blog was launched in 2011 as a way to share my catering recipes, and since then, it has grown into a global recipe site with over 1,400 restaurant-quality recipes and millions of visitors each month! I am forever grateful to my friend Sara Greene for encouraging me to start the blog. It truly changed my life.
Fun Facts
- I’m half Finnish and half Egyptian, born and raised in Los Angeles, to immigrant parents who loved to cook. They taught me how to turn humble ingredients into a feast.
- I’m married to Brian Fountaine and have a fluffy white husky named Lumi (which means “snow” in Finnish), and I have never had kids. Just pets. 😉
- The building behind me is where Mizuna Restaurant resides in downtown Spokane. Tonia and I started this in 1996, and it still exists today! It has a vegetarian menu option.
- My favorite food is my mother’s tabouli and my father’s lentil soup.
- I love to garden! Flowers, veggies, and of course lots of herbs!
- My favorite recipes on the website are: Tabouli, Baba Ganoush, Lentil Soup, Easy Pad Thai, Moussaka, and Ice cream.
