Meet my new favorite drink – a Maple Ginger Hot Toddy! A cozy warm winter sipper, made with muddled ginger, maple syrup (or honey), whiskey, a squeeze of lemon and hot ginger tea. The perfect cocktail for chilly evenings fireside or when feeling under the weather. Not only does it soothe a sore throat, and help clear the sinuses, it tucks one gently into bed for the night. A more natural way to treat a cold.
The Maple Ginger Hot Toddy is really simple to make. Set a kettle of water to boil on the stove. Add a few slices of fresh ginger to a mug and gently muddle. Add a satchel of tea- here I’m using Celestial Seasonings Gingerbread Spice– and any whole spices you like, star anise, clove, or cinnamon. Pour hot water over, add a shot of whiskey ( or bourbon or scotch), stir in a little maple syrup and finish with squeeze of lemon. Meyer lemons are particularly good here. You can leave in the tea bag for extra flavor or take it out–a healing soothing elixir for a sore throat, or a nice way to warm up after being out in the snow and cold.
- 4 slices ginger
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise pods
- 1 bag Celestial Seasonings Tea- Gingerbread Spice
- 1 ½- 2 ounces Scotch, Whiskey or Bourbon
- ½ ounce maple syrup
- Squeeze lemon ( ½ a small lemon)
- Muddle ginger in a glass
- Add cinnamon stick, star anise pods and one Celestial Seasonings Gingerbread Spice Tea Bag.
- Add Scotch & maple syrup
- Pour hot water over top and let seep 3-4 minutes.
- Add a squeeze of lemon and stir.
